Cluster to cluster transfer UVs ?

Post by pimeto » 20 Mar 2010, 20:51

Hey there!
I have this "situation" here. (look at the picture).
This is a low poly mesh. It is divided on equal pieces, as you can see probably ?!
Now, i made those pieces to cluster and i want (if possible) to unwrap one cluster and transfer the UVs to another similar cluster. Is this possible ?
I dont know. I thought of GATOR but its for transfer from obj to obj... !?
Any other way ?

oh gosh, let there be some good people on saturday night ^:)^

p.s. I just want to add, that its the smart thing to do, to unwrap these pieces before duplicate and merge B-) =)) But, my mistake - i am redoing this now.
But anyway, if you know a way to transfer UVs between clusters of a same Obj. please let me know :)

In the SDK there are two commands: CopyUVW & PasteUVW, with which you can copy the UV info from one object to another. In the Script Database there is an accompanying example. I can't say (and can't test at the moment) if this would work on two clusters on the same object, but it might (but then again: it might just well not work!) X( ;)

edit: but for it to work, you'd probably have to manually create separate texture projection for each and every cluster... :!!

Sorry for the vagueness, I'm running a fever... :ymsick:

Okay: my brains really are functioning way below optimal...
Isn't this just what you're looking for:
XSI User's Guide: Texturing > Working with UVs in the Texture Editor > Copying and Pasting Texture UV Coordinates
Which does the CopyUVW/PasteUVW command from within the UI, no scripting required...

I'm going back to bed... :ymsick: ;)

Well.
Thanks for the response :)
That SDK thing..... i have no idea what you are talkin about :) heh
Copy>paste UVs work in a really stupid (for modern times) way.
You cant copy and paste UV for more that a polygon at a time, which means that you have to select every polygon to which you want to paste UVs...
And for a lot of UV in a object, this is really going for a shotgun \m/ If you understand me :) heheh

Never mind. I did what i needed just in a couple of times + texturing :D I just extract, unwrap, copy paste mesh, merge..... \:D/

That's weird, I was eventually able to copy and paste UVs for whole clusters at a time... :-\

Ok, try this then.
Copy the UVs of a cluster or polygons and then paste them to cluster or polys on the same object!
I dont talk about copy/paste from OBJ to OBJ :)

No, I meant copy/paste on the same object from one UVed cluster to an another non-UVed cluster... :-\

Oh man, i really dont want to post another thread but i have a new strange problem and i am freaking out!
Look at the pic - from the left is the viewport screen shot of the textured obj. On the right side is region render ?!
What is the problem here ?! Please help.

This problem occurred early and i thought it was because i have a couple of material channels but now i cleaned the mesh, made the UVs again and yet the problem persist ?!
Help!

Anyone ? :(
Any questions at-least ?
I really cant solve this. I think that something might be overriding the diffuse color, or something?!
Help, pls.

Could you show your render tree for (one of) the object(s) where the texture doesn't show up and one where the "noicon" texture does? The "noicon" texture would imply that Softimage doesn't find the texture. And the not showing up could have something to do with your material not using the correct texture projection... But I am merely guessing here (as I usually do this early on a Saturday :D )... ;)

Ok, here it is!
This one for example.
Do you need anything else to expand ? :(
Theare is no complex material here. This is a simple Phong material with a texture - nothing else!

Okey, i got it sorted out :)
Of course a human mistake :D I was starting to curse Autodesk again, you know - its them fault.! :D
The problem is from the UV sets! I have the habit to scale the UVs at max and loop the texture this way - i just forgot to set the texture projection to wrap.

Oh gosh, it was a hard night and day....

Thank you Hirazi, you aways come to help :)
