I'm trying to export something as an obj so someone with a 3D printer can print.
for some reason it's not work... and I very rarely manage to get it TOO work.
What exactly is the process of creating an obj? maybe I'm doing it wrong...
exporting as obj?

Re: exporting as obj?
Getting a good clean obj out of Softimage can be a pain.
Are you sure you cannot use one of the other file formats Softimage supports (for instance FBX) to print?
Another option would be to export it from Softimage using FBX and convert it in one of the many standalone converter apps,
for instance Autodesk's very own fbx converter.

Re: exporting as obj?
thanks, that's what I wound up doing
exporting to fbx converting to obj and then exporting to stl..

Re: exporting as obj?
I never had a real problem to export meshes in a obj-file.
But there are some points they are important to know.
What is the problem in detail?

Re: exporting as obj?
I have no problems either with Wavefront OBJ, im using it frequently to store models with geometry, UVs, and normal's. For geometry only check Polygon meshes, check User normal's only if you have customized normal's. Uncheck everything that you don't need and you are rdy to go.
In general is the simplest format in the world, it is readable, you can recognize a cube only by reading the numbers in your notepad,
I did also large exports with megabytes of data, no problem.
The only serious problem that can 'destroy' a geo , is the accuracy of OBJ cause it has a few digits for decimals like 6. If you have a rly complex mesh, don't try to fit all that information in 1 SI unit. 1 S1 unit is 1 Obj unit. Also Freeze everything down, scaling too just to be sure.-->In that case you re just asking the exporter more or less to copy paste some numbers on a file, i fail to see how anything can go wrong on something so simple.
