The third quarter did not treat Autodesk (NASDAQ: ADSK) kindly. Revenue was up 2% only when measured in constant currencies; otherwise it was down 3% year-over-year. Subscriptions increased by 80,000 sequentially but deferred revenue fell. Billings fell 4%, and Autodesk reported an operating loss. As it that wasn’t enough, a 1% drop in marketing expenses coincided with a 3% drop in revenue.
Digging deeper into revenue: License revenue: $280.9 million, down 12%; Subscription revenue: $318.9 million, up 7%.
They are still optimistic that things will get better.

Well I guess for us Users this could be good or bad.
Either this means they invest more to produce better Updates and sell more licenses again or it might mean they cut some jobs in the future.

This kind of sluggishness is something they probably shrug off rather easily.
No need to worry for them at this point in time, one would imagine.

came across this guy recently. seems to have some kind of insider info. literally. I think, from reading so far, him and his CAD company got engulfed, he tried to change it from the inside, much disgruntlement ensued.

Re: Autodesk reports sluggish 3rd quarter due to subscriptions
I would say that this is expected as AD is moving away from offering perpetual licenses for their software (that revenue stream will go down) toward subscriptions and rentals (revenue stream to go up). Remain to be seen if the change of business model will be successful, too early to say if the revenues generated by subscriptions and rentals will outgrow the old license model.Digging deeper into revenue: License revenue: $280.9 million, down 12%; Subscription revenue: $318.9 million, up 7%.
There are other factors that could impact the business model: AD offering and demand of it's products, customer satisfaction, competition and industry re-structuring to name a few, all of which with the potential to impact AD bottom-line (negatively or positively). You only need a slow market economy or a civil unrest to screw up any of those business models.
My two cents.
