Redshift - Hair on ICE istances seems not rendering

Post by Superpositivo » 14 Jun 2018, 15:29

Hi, guys.

I have this kind of problem that looks like hair doesn't render when instanced on Ice particles.

If I use Instance the model, everything's fine, but not on the ICE particles.
Does anybody knows why or if it's a limitation (annoying) or if there's a why?

The Ice Tree is very simple, actually it's just a test. Basic emission + instance geometry.

Thanks!

Redshift can't deal with nested pointclouds :(

Only way really is to combine it all into one cloud, or you could create a proxy from the original which you could scatter with ice.

Uh, thanks for the quick response!

Actually I'm afraid it's a bit over my knowledge, even if it looks maybe it can be done in few passages, right?

What I did is scattering the original model with ICE.
The real intention is to animate a bunch of wolves instanced from a single model with hair attached.
So, the wolf is walking, the control animation gives a different starting walk and all of them should have the hair attached, too.

So you said that thing about the proxy. What is it exactly, inside Softimage? And whould it spread the hair on every instance of the pointcloud? It would be great!

Thanks again!

A redshift proxy is scene or model data which has been written to disk, and can then be loaded onto a null or simple object inside the scene, which then gets read at rendertime.

You can then scatter it using ice, best way, especially if you need time shifting, is to use this script and tutorial:

Oh, wow, that's cool. I hope it will transfer Hair, too, and not only the color shader.

I'm going to try it.

I'll update any result, if successful.

Thank you very much! I
