Windows 10 Professional or Home???

Post by Hirazi Blue » 18 Sep 2020, 12:35

As I am about to buy a new PC I was wondering if there is any reason to get a Windows 10 Professional edition for Softimage 2015, as was originally in the system requirements.
Wouldn't a slightly cheaper Home edition suffice or would one run into all kinds of problems? Thanks in advance... :-?

Hi Hirazi,

Windows 10 Pro if you need bitlocker or you have several computers.
For a cheaper license you can go to SCDkey (I bought 4 from them) no problems for all microsoft upgrade

OEM license :)

If you need Retail license it is a little bit more expensive

So if I don't need bitlocker the Home edition will suffice?
Thanks!

We have all our PCs with Win10 Home and using Softimage 2013 and 2015 in some of them. I didn’t find any reason to use Pro.

And since OEM is only for PC manufacturers, I don’t know how legal is that.
Btw, licenses for PC assemblers is called DSP and you need to buy at least one PC component at the same time.

I think by far, the worst issue about Home is, that you risk your computer rebooting and updating in the middle of a render. Even though its not simple, you can (almost) turn automatic updates off on pro.

In personally always use LTSC versions, no updates and more important no upgrades !
