Siggraph has started (or is about to start?) again, the event is being held in Vancouver this year.
Autodesk has its annual Siggraph page here and will be hosting a Virtual Siggraph again also.

No doubt there will be interesting news, rumors and so on.
Please feel free to drop them in this thread...
;)

As was to be expected Autodesk use Siggraph to announce their 2012 Subscription Advantage Packs. The 3ds Max 2012 Subscription Advantage Pack gets announced in this blog post over at the Area.

More to follow, I'm sure... ;)

there's some more stuff here http://area.autodesk.com/siggraph2011/

I know what Mark is showing, but you wouldn't want me to spoil the surprise would you?

Some info on the SAP for 2012:

http://xsisupport.wordpress.com/2011/08 ... -software/

Seems a little thin but as long as the update works and is reliable (did that mr render bug get dealt with when rendering heavy scenes the cores would stop working - or was that just down to the on-disk frame-buffers option?) its cool.

Finally don't have to listen to people banging on about the lack of shell modifier any longer!

I know at least one thing Mark will be showing (grin).

Personally, I'm thrilled, my very highest priority was modeling updates so I'm hoping for the best. That has a very direct impact on my productivity. I hope the changes are significant.

As for SDK stuff, it does nothing for me except maybe the hope of cool plugins in the future.

I was hoping for iray like Max but from what I've heard so far from the Max community it's a joke as is so I guess there's no point rushing that. I hope they at least put in a few render goodies like progressive rendering.

From the AD wiki:
PS: New options for ICE RBD = Bullet
So that would mean Momentum is now integrated into SI, as Momentum uses the Bullet engine for this?
Or is this a 'light' version, like the integrated version of Eric Mootz's polygonizer tool?

Interesting nonetheless....

I doubt this has much to do with Momentum. It seems to be "just" a solution for RBD ICE collisions in line with Maya adopting Bullet also... But it's early days and I obviously could be very much mistaken.

All the Subscription Advantage Packs at a glance.

Bullet is just a physics solver/engine, much in the same way PhysX is.

Momentum does use it, but then other plugins and tools also do as well.

Momentum is not integrated into Softimage, Bullet is.

Bullet is a collision detection and rigid body dynamics library. With the Advantage Pack, you can now choose to use Bullet instead of PhysX.

A slightly more detailed feature list.

Nice update!
Hope you continue to pump the selection/ modeling(SDK) department in future releases.
Thanks!

Funny, as always.

Wait, can someone clarify? Do we (Softimage) get OpenCl Bullet like Maya 2012 got?

Maya 2012 OpenCl Bullet Physics

It seems like we did, but, the Autodesk website does not detail if we did.

The Maya 2012 SAP details the bullet features as:

Bullet Physics—Create highly realistic soft body, rigid body, and ragdoll simulations with high-performance open source AMD Bullet Physics engine.

While the Softimage 2012 SAP details the bullet features as:

Bullet Physics—Take advantage of enhanced collision detection in ICE (Interactive Creative Environment) and rigid body simulations with newly integrated Bullet Physics.
