The company that I am at (Element X Creative) used Softimage and the Arnold renderer for the 2011 AICP sponsor reel. Arnold and Softimage were a dream to work with on this project. Softimage's nonlinear capabilities were a huge asset in this tight production.

From the EXC press release:
"Our creative minds here at Element X Creative (elementxcreative.com) were pretty stoked about The Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) asking us to create this year's Sponsor Reel for the Southwest show. The creative carte blanche was daunting given such a small window of time to concept and produce a 5 minute piece. It was even more challenging considering our own expectations were set high, not only in terms of storytelling, but wanting to create something that had not been done in the history of the show.

After hours and hours of brainstorming concepts, we found an idea the whole studio could rally behind. Every individual under our roof came together to write, storyboard, model, texture, shoot, matchmove, rig, animate, composite, and edit the final product. Many late nights and take-out orders later, combined with a music and sound effects mix from Tequila Mockingbird, the end video was stunning to behold.

So take a peek at our latest and greatest! We hope you have as much fun watching it as our hero Jack had while running around in the tiny world we created for him. "

Awesome. Nice short and looks great! Cute touch with the DeLorean ;)

How much was 3D? I'm guessing the minor moving stuff and characters?

Glad you caught the "Back to the future Easter egg" There is another one (not necessarily a Delorian) in there as well. The train set was shot over at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth Texas. Obviously the moving characters, birds, and cars, but there we some still characters, cars & props added as well. The sponsors logos were also added into the shots. The really long focal lengths and many rack focuses made match moving quite challenging for some shots.

Simply stunning! Great job all around. I was a huge fan of model train sets growing up - still am. To me, this is a very unique and awesome animation. Congrats!

Thank you for the kind words. Coming up with something unique, that was one of the hardest things...that and the 5 weeks of crunching it in between paying gigs ;)

We've been using Syntheyes for match moving at EXC for a while now.

Thanks so much Greg! I'll pass on the praise to the team.

OT- Sushi sounds great. Axiom is really good in Fort Worth, but I don't know how it is in Dallas.
