Collapse Eye Effect ?

Post by Falam » 29 Sep 2012, 20:58

I'm looking to create a collapse effect for a eye. Where one part nests into the next part when a null is moved, following a curve. I hope the image conveys what I'm after. :)

Hey listen man i see you ask more of these question and i gotta ask: what have you tried yourself? When you just post these very short questions it just seems like you have an idea but you want someone else to work it out for you...

For this i'd say make and ICE tree connecting the nulls position to those separate pieces rotation - but here's the first problem of your very short question: are they separate pieces or do you want to rig an eyelid on a face mesh? For your other question i'd say maybe you just need a deform by curve? There's a good ICE version of it out there. But again i don't really know what it is you want... :-?

So please: write down more information on what you want to ask and try some things out for yourself - it's a lot easier for someone to help you out when you're stuck on a specific task!

I have thought about how to approach this and I have made an attempt to try it myself. What I can't figure out is how to make one collapse into the other, then come out as an accordion effect. I've thought about expressions, then thought, I don't know if expressions could accomplish this, then I thought about ICE, ICE probably can do it, how do I get each one to nest into each other ? I want the effect on a eye, it's not directly attached to a face mesh. I don't mean deform by curve, I meant follow along a curve, I know there is compound to do this that is not my issue, I'm drawing blanks with it's the accordion effect. Since I haven't touched face with the TD part of Softimage very much, maybe there is something you or someone can teach me with regards to this effect.

I'd like to know the best method to create a dynamic parent effect, when I move the pink mesh back the blue, and yellow would follow, with some control. Would a condition expression be acceptable, or ICE.

Generally speaking, one way to do this is by linking parameters - in this case rotX of first object to rotX of second, and so on, and adding a divider/multiplier in the resulting expression.

It could work the same way on a deforming mesh, you'd set up linked parameters for the deformers that drive the accordion-like deformation.

That's all pre-ICE stuff, btw. Manny Papamanos has done a great tutorial DVD on all kinds of rigging, http://3dmastermind.com/. You can get a ton of information from that one.

Thanks Druite.
Yes this is quite easily done within seconds with "Link-With"
Look here:

Somewhere in the middle is when I apply "link-with".

Ciao.
