ICE Tutorials you think you want...

Post by Hirazi Blue » 16 Dec 2009, 20:05

As there haven't been many ICE Tutorials as of late, I propose to use this thread to post ideas for possible future ICE Tutorials, hoping that those who are "fluent in ICE" get inspired to help us out!!! A slight dose of realism in the requests would be nice...

Ok, here's one:

How about a nice flame/fire tutorial? For candles, fireplaces - not just the basic particle setup, but detailed enough so you'll get nice renders :)

Maybe a practical case study on setting up an advanced character using ICE whereever it's possible -

for instance, quaternion skinning in a rig that uses not only bones, maybe clothes simulation, hair/fur, sliding skin, cage deformers.

I know compounds or ICE setups for all of these exist and often in more than one version by different authors, and of course there are more things I didn't mention because I don't know about them. A character setup could be a nice central point to collect ICE tutorials around. (And also because it's my main interest in XSI :) )

totally make that for two.!! :)
i agree on a total challenge on character setup..!! on integration with particles ,,

I'd love to see a cool looking ICE explosion.. Nice puffy smoke. Looking like something you might find in a Call Of Duty game...

Awesome thread...hope the gurus know about it though.

One thing that I noticed over the last year or so, was how some people like Bradley Gabe and Thiago Costa created tutorials where
they explain how to look at math equations and then implement that into ICE. This opened sooo much for me and would like to see more of that being covered.

Most artists who look at complex equations on Wikipedia freek out, until they see how easy and clear it becomes when you show it in a short video tutorial.

It helped me to do so much more, and would like to thanks both Bradley and Thiago for taking the time.

How about it...any gurus out there who would like to share.

Here is Bradley's latest awesomness.

"How the ICE bunny was built" (It's in the XSI samples directory of SI2011 and features most of the work group kinematics compounds)

I'd also go for a complete Rig setup with the new ice kinematics, and technical paper translations too. It's awesome how math looks a lot more easier when there's someone explaining than just looking at equations on a wikipedia page. (something like bradley gabe's bezier curve videos)

While I agree, a complete rig setup would be nice (especially if it's well explained), I doubt if such a thing will be forthcoming soon. That said, any tutorial explaining the inner (and outer) workings of Ice Kinematics would be helpful...

I sincerely hope, someone who could actually provide such tutorials will read this... :D

But not forcing the readers of your post to copy and paste links is
what using the URL tags is all about... :ymhug:

A well-formed link (within URL tags) can be clicked, a link without the appropriate URL tags is parsed as plain text and cannot be clicked...

(And I keep on explaining this... =)) )
