Please clarify your question (what you want to know and why it's specifically a "ICE & Math" question)...

I concur with Hirazi on this one, if the question is not clear or open handed, it make it difficult to give you a proper reply.
BTW, have you seen this article from Michael Isner before?

I have a carbon copy of the Micheal Isner article It explains, but it can be a little 'deep' ! How can I use Matrices to make a car suspension ?
Re: Matrix - What the Crazy Node is this ?
with softimage 2011 we shipped a copy of Craft Animation Studio, which had a car rig, although I've never tried it

there is an extensive car rig tutorial for xsi here

Thanks LucEric. I was hoping for something based on ICE, no hard feelings, all is good

This shit ain't easy to do, thus why people get paid to do it.Falam wrote:...but it can be a little 'deep'...

Moderator edit: I am planning to move this fun little thread back to the "Vanilla ICE" forum soon,
unless someone can prove it's useful to keep it in the "ICE & Math" subforum specifically... - HB

Re: Matrix - What the Crazy Node is this ?
Personally I don't get matrix stuff either. I know that Mesh.kine.global returns a 4x4 matrix, but I don't get what each value represents.
All I understand so far..
[1,0,0,0] :: sclX?,?, ?, ?
[0,1,0,0] :: ?, sclY?, ?, ?
[0,0,1,0] :: ?, ?, sclZ?, ?
[0,0,0,1] :: posX, posY, posZ, ?
But even there... the sclXYZ values are affected when the object is rotated..? So I get totally lost..
Can someone post a breakdown? It's a bit sad, this seems like something that would have been extensively documented a few versions back..

Matrices don't necessarily have to be understood mathematically to make use of them.
I use them all the time to good effect and I have no idea how they work mathematically. What is useful is knowing what they can do. Ie, parenting-like operations.

(.. no one can tell you what the matrix is..)

The Matrix is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth

AFAIK:NightroadAX wrote:Can someone post a breakdown?
[1,0,0,0] :: X-axis direction, 0
[0,1,0,0] :: Y-axis direction, 0
[0,0,1,0] :: Z-axis direction, 0
[0,0,0,1] :: position, 1
Scaling is embedded diagonally (multiplying everything) and rotation is implicit to the axes' direction... there is a convenient fourth column because square matrices (rows == columns) are much easier to work with.

A nice article by Simon Anderson on the topic of Matrices in Softimage can be found here.

This is helpful, and the kind of information that I was opening the door to, with my original post. The post was not meant to have a specific question, the post was to open the door for everyone that were confused, and wanted a break down of Matrices.Hirazi Blue wrote:A nice article by Simon Anderson on the topic of Matrices in Softimage can be found here.
Re: Matrix - What the Crazy Node is this ?
So it can be said that a Matrix is a spreadsheet?
