Nice catch! What will this mean for Softimage if anything? Most likely nothing, but a nice piece of info nonetheless.

Not a golden touch for sure, but he has a good amount of connections and money to invest in companies that are pushing things forward and not just the same old same old. I don't think things are much better for Softimage without him,
especially with the recent news being passed around... <-- Please disregard as it is an unconfirmed rumor.

It looks as though he's laying bets.

It's being rumored AD will discontinue Softimage after v.2015.angus_davidson wrote:Recent news ?
I'm just kidding, I have no idea what he's referring to.

I am intrigued at what "recent news" you mean.EricTRocks wrote:with the recent news being passed around...
Could you please elaborate, as you talk of "news" not "rumors"?

Re: Marc Petit joins Exocortex
I probably shouldn't have made that statement in a public arena as it is not able to be confirmed. My apologies.
None the less, without Marc Petit at Autodesk, Softimage isn't fairing any better.

Eric,
the source must be pretty good for you to post it here, as I know you hate these sort of threads, either that or you have been worn down like the rest of us.

There was a post in Softimage mailing list. It wasn't first time that person wrote something like that.
I think Petit was instrumental in buying Softimage from Avid. In 2012 he gets out. Softimage 2012 released in 2011 was the last great release. I think there was an ServicePack -Extension at that time too. The last one.None the less, without Marc Petit at Autodesk, Softimage isn't fairing any better.
Re: Marc Petit joins Exocortex
Maybe it's not time for stupid analogy, but... for me, Softimage story remains to kind of long running nuclear power plant. Not that much of influence in everyday life, but what's accumulated during all these years, nobody know. What will happen when it comes to decommission, nobody knows too.
All what someone can do is to stay away, and that's what mister from original post is actually doing, imho.

Re: Marc Petit joins Exocortex
Here we go, again and again. Nothing's like a good rumour, ey...? As has been said: would be the dumbest mistake Autodesk ever made.
Maybe then there's some Edward-Snowden-like character in the Singapore office who grabs the sourcecode and spreads it all over the internet... ha! I would smash a church window to be able to have a peek...
