Forester
3DQuakers, one of the few providers of Softimage video training, is proudly presenting its
first Softimage plugin: [..] Forester is a procedural creation addon that renders the creation of natural
elements like trees, forests, grass and flowers a breeze! With its procedural approach,
Forester generates the geometry using ICE, making the creation and editing of elements
very straightforward. Forester is not aimed for technical directors, but for artists.
No ICE knowloedge is required. In fact, Forester will add all the connections automatically,
so the user would only have to change the element parameters. Forester elements come
with lots of parameters to render the customization process very fast and intuitive.
Almost all geometry come with built-in UVs, called Space UVs, that fit perfectly over
the geometry, and render exactly the same way in Mental Ray and Arnold.
Pricing information: Forester v1 is launched with an introductory price of 159 USD, for single machine use. Additional licenses cost 100 USD per machine. Prices are subject to increase after the launch period.

Should be fixed now
Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
So, when can we start acquiring this wonder?
To create something that does not exist, to exist.
Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
A couple of weeks Cacoman
Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
ugh it would be perfect for what I'm working on right now but unfortunatly deadline is MOnday evening so.. no jy for now but looking forward to check it out. WIll tehre be any trial version or something to test out?

Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
Very Cool!
One little question. How is the UV for the growing part generated? I can see buzzing in the bark textures, but am not sure if this is the renderer, or the UV's swimming/scaling.
But very cool looking system. Any chance of a more hands-on walk-through soon?

This is part 1 of the Broadleaf Tree walkthrough
So far the texture scales with growth. I'll see if I can add another option come the final release.

Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
Its looking great, definitely interested in seeing how it scales up to larger environments as well - how achievable would it be to create a forest with wind animation? And when are you planning on releasing it?
Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
There are several ways to create forests, with animation, which will be covered in upcoming (next week) walk-through videos.
Release date, as mentioned earlier in this thread, is sometime in the second half of March.

Now that's innovation. Please don't sell this to autodesk. We can't afford to have this discontinued as well.
Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
this is looking great.
but i have some questions.
the trees are created out of cylinders and from the video it looks like also the main trunk consist of different cylinders. the uv's are per cylinder as i understood. now here could be a problem. when you using dispmapping and you have local uv's for every cylinder, you will get cracks between the borders of 2 cylinders which should be 1 main trunk if they will not share the same uv's or directly connected in the same uv space?
the other thing, is it possible to create something like weeping willows with their hanging trunks?
and because you mentioned the capping function in the video and the problem when "closing the caps" is choosen. it is possible to create 2 capping options, one for the start and one for the end? because it would make sense to close the end and let the start of the trunk open.

Re: Announcing Forester a new plugin from 3DQUAKERS
Hi Kzin,
Trunks and branches are extrusions, not cylinders. The UVs are propagating along the length of the extrusion. Displacement works fine.
Weeping willows are possible. You just need to add gravity to the branches and tweak to get the look you need.
Closing the caps is not a problem for the trees per se, rather for any cylindrical shape that is subdivided. A proper solution would be to add procedural rounding at the caps, but I think I will leave it for a future version.

nice to see this. can maybe even grow to something with library of trees and everything?
not sure if asked but what are ETA and maybe have idea of cost?
