Viking

Post by Alen » 29 Nov 2014, 20:35

Hi. My name is Alen from Croatia. This image was inspired by the series Vikings which made me do heavy research on the way vikings lived and their conquests through history. What I tried to show in this image is moment of returning to homeland after raids and finding out that their homeland is attacked so the last viking from ship is on the way to defend it! Hopefully I have managed to make nice north mood. Thanks for feedback!

Rendered in RedShift...mist is not....

Cool! Almost has a "patriotic" feel to it - the colors. :p

The mist wasn't done in Redshift, why was that?

Phuh...did not notice the "patriot" until you point it :D...actually Vikings did have 13 red stripes on their ships..they are older than americans so...thanks. Redshift does not support volume rendering at this moment...

Pretty darn cool indeed!!

In pretty much every aspect!

If you dont mind a bit of critique,

I think there could be more shadow on his upper arm under his shirt,
I guess it's that his sleeve is stuck to his skin towards the front, but because of the looseness to the back,
it feels like there is some missing shadow.

Also (if at all) I think the sky itself (not considering the moonshine which is great)
could use more gradient going to a lighter blue/gray towards the horizon, to reduce the impression of the sky kind-of feeling like it's "close".

And maybe it's just a coincidence that the clouds happen to stop behind the head of the boat,
but I think that could be broken-up, as well as perhaps a bit of a curve in the perfectly straight ropes.

But again, all that is nit-picking of an otherwise really great piece,
The hair, water, wood.. modeling, the mood,

Kudos!

(and indeed feel free to post other pieces! :D )
