Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Finally an integrated simulation?
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Yes Yes Yes, seems they will deliver what they promised !!

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Interesting, some of the particle stuff they show in the beginning looks very similar to the Molecular addon for Blender ;;)

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Uh oh ! don't take me literally ;-) I was just an enthusiast because they started to show some UI rework and more importantly a rework too on the animation side. They say they will listen now ? let see on the modeling side if they had listened to you...McNistor wrote:Which is what if you don't mind me asking?NNois wrote:Yes Yes Yes, seems they will deliver what they promised !!
I'd love to be positive on this one, too much time spend, be better being a plumber
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Ah, I was just curious... I thought you've referred to a particular promise they've made. It would have been rather interesting since I don't think there 's any big s/w company that makes any promises at all, other than the usual generalist PR talk that is.

And these Blender tools look strikingly similar to the Lagoa tools ;-)
But this looks very nice. Some very wanted UI enhancements/improvements here too.

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Well I'd say, new 'position based' solver, able to do its best in some areas, that's it. Now, if 'integrated simulation' means the ability to mix different solvers, turning one media into another like liquid into gas, or, driving wires by liquid and so on - this is already possible, as Houdini deals in pretty much unified way with all integrated simulations. However, these mixes aren't fastest simulations on the planet, sometimes (nicely to say).Bullit wrote:Finally an integrated simulation?
IF 'integrated simulation' means an unified way for user, to control all that stuff. I'd say answer is huge yes and huge no.
3d app itself is really easy to 'get' - interface has unified controls, small number of windows is enough to 'drive it', there is mentioned unified way for controlling the simulations, so, something completely , positively different in comparison to two 'M' and mass of 3rd party plugins in these two M....
..but, when it comes to details, 'I want to do this simple adjustment, which already I was able to do in SI in few minutes'. well, more than often, Houdini opens an entire world to you , full of additional options, where some of them works only in some cases and combinations, but some others are simply great, for nice surprise - once you found the solution. For small example, I wanted to control the wire (hair) simulation in Syflex way, by 'setting weights' on pin constrain. Not possible ( believe me or not), but, after day or two, found the way to override mentioned constraint, using 'geometry VOP' which, organizationally, belongs to Gas ( fluid) VEX nodes.
Compared to ICE, Houdini can do everything that ICE can, but, there is no (too much) of mercy. Frequently, same functionality in H, means three or five times more nodes, and these nodes *have* to be nested in Houdini way - not only in user way like with ICE compounds.
Anyway, to stop long story here, UX part looks promising, new animation editor, synoptic look-like thing, and ... well they are developing the new, powerfull stuff
By the way, I'm slowly working on few mini examples, how to do some typical SI things in Houdini, related to modeling and basic ICE procedures. There's a lot of gorgeous things in this software that is, imho, simply overlooked. For example, complete VDB stuff, especially ability to use VDBs as procedural modeling of irregular, zBrush style surfaces. And, yes I-hate-to-say-this, a lot of that simply does not exist in SI, together with all addons around.
Great release is this 14, I'd be sure.
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
From Robert Magee
"Let's just say that the changes are being spearheaded by two former XSI developers. They are doing great things and what is great is how they are bringing their knowledge and experience and melding it with Houdini technology - for instance the new animation layers use CHOPS at it's core.
There will be a lot more to the story when Jan 15 rolls along..."
I bet someone at AD is kickin their own heads.

If they keep on this track there wont be anything left of Autodesk in couple of years.

Soooo CooooL
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
All the new simulation and crowd additions are all very cool but for me the UI improvements are crucial.
Can't wait to give it a spin.

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
This has also perked my interest... Animation enhancements
Plus that directional sim solver stuff looks inconceivably awesome.

Thanks Matheus. I mean cloth, fluids, rbd, sbd, hair , all that has dynamics integrated and possible to break, cut, shread, getting wet.
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Hmmm... new selection in Houdini... Hope a bit of love in modelling field.
Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Modeling is so easy to achieve in other places and are so interchangeable into any package that it's just about the lowest possible thing on my list.Nizar wrote:Hmmm... new selection in Houdini... Hope a bit of love in modelling field.
