Windows 10 & Softimage 2015?

Post by Hirazi Blue » 11 Mar 2015, 10:46

As the Windows 10 Technical Preview appears to be available for a while now
and some of you surely must have started testing it,
I was wondering if those who have could share their experiences
concerning Softimage 2015 compatibility on Windows 10.
;)

By popular vote, they wanted the old menu back. It's still got the metro feels and functions though...

The margins would be for touch interfaces..

Thanks. This is quite a big deal to me, as it means I won't have to rush to buy a Win8 PC before Win10 hits. :-bd

I can also confirm XSI and Windows 10 are working fine.

Got a chance to test it on a 4K display btw- no issues at all .. so that should pose no problem either in the future

The innovation was killed by a group of raging people, who didn't give the new features in Win8 a chance. Like with the Xbox One features.
Small groups, very vocal...... Messing it up for the rest of us.

The padding in the UI is to accommodate tablet users with screens between 8 and 12". Personally I think they went back too far, and killed the best bits of the Modern UI. But that's me.... ;-)

Softimage and Windows 10?

Post by Rez007 » 04 Jun 2015, 21:31

Moderator edit: Merged Rez007's thread with the older one - HB

Hello,
With Windows 10 coming out July 29th of this year, does anyone know if Softimage will work smoothly on it? Or, has anyone tried Softimage on Windows 10 Technical Preview? I am assuming since Windows is most likely going to be a free upgrade to version 10 (if you are on Windows 7, 8 or 8.1) via a straight download/install without having to reinstall any files, that it should run okay. I am just curious as Autodesk said support for Softimage ends Feb 2016, I believe. If Softimage for some reason does not work well on Windows 10, would a support update be released to fix it, since it would fall in the timeframe posted by Autodesk?

I am just curious if anyone has tried this yet, or has anymore information. Thank You.

Thank you. I did a keyword search for it, before I posted, and I didn't find anything - must have missed it. Thanks again.

Would love to know whether its worth trying out, for the functionality. Couldn't care less how it looks, but how is the memory usage, file management, compatibility, backup?

Thanks Draise, if you can post your hardware setup, also if you notice any graphic glitch.

OK! Enjoying the preview of Windows 10. Theoretically, from a tweet, Insiders get a free copy.. I've only had to reinstall once due to a overclock issue that corrupted my boot manager for my OS, and not being able to restore it - but other than that.. it's great. The new multidesktop is very handy, the feedback forum thing is nice, the small details are great, and as buggy as the new start menu is, it's great. Also, handwriting is working better.

SI loads faster in 10 than in 8.1. Other software slower. Give or take a little.

I haven't tested SI a lot. It's just the demo version with the demo samples for now, but so far so good. 2015 SP1.

If you want to throw anything at me to run with SI to test it on the preview here, just let me know.

Ah, specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Processor - 3.2 GHZ
6 GiG DDR3 1600 MHZ
2 gig VRAM AMD Radeon HD 7800 - 1050 GPU cores running at 850 Mhz more or less
