SI 2011 install and running Wacom drivers - BEWARE

Post by Rork » 20 Apr 2010, 13:25

Hi all,

I just wanted to post this here as this took me a day to figure out in the end, I figured my NVIDIA update was the problem at first, but after several driver rollbacks, cleanups and reinstalls, system restores and such I ended up at the Wacom driver. It wasn't a suspect at first as it was working just fine before.

So if you have issues with SI or PS CS4 not starting and crashing when the GUI shows up after installing SI2011, try uninstalling your current Wacom driver to see if things will run again.

Apparently the one that is working before a 2011 install is done, can cripple all installed versions of SI and PS afterwards.

My version of the driver was 614-3, I still have to find a version that will work on all version of SI, I will install and test them today and will report here.

Hope this help someone else as well, because this can be so frustrating ~x(

Hmm, that might explain my startup crashes also... :-?
Thanks for the suggestion. :ymhug:

Hi,

Yes, I forgot to mention I'm running Vistax64. Although I was very tempted at one point to install Win7. I still have that DVD lying around for a quit day ;-)

Hi all,

I've found Wacom driver version 6.12.5 to be the one, now everything works on a Wacom without crashing :ymparty:

Maybe it will help somebody out in the future.

I don't know what is going on with wacom drivers, but it seems they have been causing a rash of problems on different systems for different reasons. Makes me wonder if they have been causing a lot of problems all along.

Thank you for sharing your problem and solution- I'm sure it will help a lot of SI users AND many others.
