Paul Smith' Fuzz "Gradient along Strand"

Post by sant0s » 17 Feb 2016, 15:38

hey there :)

I am working with the Fuzz tool to get some fur.
So far its a great tool and easy to use.

But - the "Gradient along Strand" Node does not work for me.
I plugged the Node into Standcolor (and for testing purpose into color) and in my color diffuse I pluggerd the color_attribute node with either Strandcolor or Color choosen.
But whatever I try, I dont get the strandcolor.
Could anyone test the fuzz plugin with the color node? Maybe its an Softimage Version Problem?
Running 2015 SP2.

Thx alot!
sant0s

edit: okay, the gradient to color node works fine with version 1.0.
will figure out whats the problem and give feedback here if any has the same problem.

What renderer are you using? (I'm not sure if mental ray can use color array ICE attributes)

Don't know about that, with "it" I just meant the "ICE color *array attribute to hair shader" thingy

maybe somebody can help with another question on FUZZ.
I cached frame 1 of the strands to get rid of the flickering. (thx to ivan vasiljevic btw)
but in the middle of the animation, I need to let the fuzz grow a bit.
is there a way to do that?
I only find the attribute "readpos" that seems to be related to the length, but thats not working :D

You can easily make a compound to grow the hair after the cache.

You'd need to multiply the strand position in relation to the point position.

Sorry, yes of course. I meant that it's easily achieved. Obviously that's if you know how to manipulate vectors.
If you have trouble I'm happy to make you a compound.

hmm, only if you find some time - I could just finish everything than ;)
I tested to change the length compound IN the fuzz compound.
but vectors and matrix is another world :)
