Hi all,
It seems I have been out of the XSI loop too long, and having a brain freeze on the above with ICE.
I have a grid emitting instanced geometry (a simple animated windmill hierarchy). If I use the Instance shape node, all particles show animation, but all the same one.
To offset the animation, I have to use the Set Instance Geometry and Control Instance Animation.
Here I can't get it to work, or all animation jitters when using Randomize nodes. So if anyone has tips, I'm all ears.
cheers!
rob

Re: ICE - Offset instanced geometry animation issues
Not sure if this is helpful at all,
but there was a short thread on the Mailing List entitled "How to offset instance animation in ICE?",
where one of the advices was to turn off "the animated checkbox from the randomize node".
;)

Hi,
I think I saw that one, but so far all I tried didn't work. I must overlook something very basic ;-)
Will have a look at it tomorrow when I have some more time.
thanks!

Re: ICE - Offset instanced geometry animation issues
It is old school instancing that always work, that is, bunch of objects in group, each one have different animated deformation, where instances are associated to IDs by ICE tree, like in pic. That's fast to evaluate, too.
Anything that have a 'ShapeInstanceTime' attribute in compound, perhaps all compounds under 'geometry instancing', seems to be subject of some caching, different in view port or final render, starting from MR stand-ins. Maybe it works, slowly, maybe it works in view port but not in render, maybe not at all.

Hi Mathaeus,
Thanks for that!
I had a similar setup yesterday, but it refused to work, so I moved on to the Set Instance Geometry and Control Instance Animation nodes.
But it's working now, not sure what went wrong yesterday. All this 3D app 'hopping' nowadays is messing up the old synapses I guess ;)
cheers!
