interesting... thank you
Re: Creating new Project - folders
Keep the Softimage folders as is, and add everything else outside the Soft environment.
I know it might look like a good idea to cram everything into the Softimage scene structure, but splitting it up, makes it easier to maintain, especially if you work with more people than one on a project.
We use a basic, already setup rootfolder for a project, that contains subfolders for 2D, 3D, audio and clients.
The 2D root has its folders for PS, AE, Nuke, etc. The 3D root has folders for Assets (Wips and finals), SI, Maya, Cinema, Houdini etc.
All 3D apps have a bunch of default projects already created, based on shotnumbers. You just link your 3D app to the root of a shot folder.
p.s. be sure that the SI project has a system folder with the .dsprojectinfo file in it, or SI cannot save)
Audio has all audio for the project, if needed, and the clients folder contains all in and outgoing artwork, storyboards, quicktimes and renders for approval.
This way everything is capsulated in it's own folders, and people know where to find stuff that is relevant to them.
Link all this to a FBX or Alembic workflow for assets and such, and you have quite a flexible workflow going.
Hope it helps,
rob

Re: Creating new Project - folders
don't miss this one, you can simply build your own base structure including that system folder with ANY .dsprojectinfo. You can have the same copied .dsprojectinfo file for multiple project and it will workRork wrote:SI project has a system folder with the .dsprojectinfo file in it, or SI cannot save)...
