Flex to Si
updated March 2023 — (from the zip's readme) Flex to Si is a connector to Flex (NVidia's hardware accelerated physics framework).
Not all flex features are enabled, only calculation of fluids and their collision
with static and dynamic geometry.
Installation : put in the same directory e.g. c:\Users\alex\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_R2-SP2\Application\Plugins\nt-x86-64\flextest\ Needs DirectX!!!
Configurable parameters include (see the archive readme for some more explanation): Fluid Mode, Max Particles, Substeps, NumIterations, Speed, Max Particle Speed, Fluid Resolution Multiplier, Fluid resolution, Collision distace, Rest offset, Shape collision margin, Particle collision margin, World Gravity, Adhesion Strength, Cohesion Force, Surface Tension, Viscosity, Vorticity, Dynamic Friction, Static Friction, Particle Friction, Drag, Lift, Damping, Static triangle mesh, Static SDF mesh, Kinematic substeps, Kinematic triangle mesh, Plane Null, Use Ground Plane.

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Flex_To_Si_2.05 uses NVIDIA Flex version - 1.1.0
Flex_To_Si_2.06 uses NVIDIA Flex version - 1.2.0
I didn't notice any difference in their work

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Hi there, i have updated the PcTools repo to have the compiled Flex nodes for ICE and the sample scenes. no source code.
It should work, but honestly didnt try it since long time ago, just in case some one is interested here it is:
https://github.com/pedroCabrera/pcTools_Softimage
I updated the repo to have the dlls and sample scenes.
....rest in peace xSI..... 💚

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Great SkinSliding!
Also with your first iterations we can see that it can not only be good for skin, but also for clothing wrinkles !
( later iterations indeed look more like sliding skin )
Because ALOT of clothing sim often only need the wrinkling and not necessarily always alot of cloth dynamics.
Or maybe is it like all one of the same with Flex ?
Otherwise ... still can't wait to try it lol.
Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Hello Pedrito!
Thanks for your work.
Unfortunaly It can`t load sample flex scenes from pcTools due to Invalid PC_flex.dll. How to fix it?

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Hi there! Im not sure about this, just make sure you have cuda compatible card, drivers and all that, also maybe go to the oficial repo of FLEX and try to run their standalone software and lets see if that one works...
Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Thank you for answer. I have a cuda-compatible card (rtx3070) with a latest drivers. Flex demo from repo works fine.

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Just to say that I ran into the same issue, but got it to work ,
and the following was what I did ::
- I uninstalled/deleted any previous Flex related addons / dlls
- Copied extra files and overwritten existing DLLs from the previous Flex implementation called "Flex_To_Si_2.05.zip"
to the uncompressed "PCTools" folder, in "pcTools_Softimage\Application\Plugins\bin\nt-x86-64"
( in case there was some library missing or something,
while overwriting existing files ... as common files had exactly the same sizes, so were probably the same anyway, but in case that made a difference )
- and then moved PCtools folder in my user "Addons" folder,
So I don't know exactly what made it work among that, but it did !

Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Hi!
I just put together a video-montage of most of the FLEX Sample Scenes
I didn't change anything in these scenes, except for default viewport antialiasing in HQV,
& some realtime shading tweaks to make it easier to visualize volumes,
relative to the previous "solid mass" constant shading.
and the framerates are shown at the bottom ...
( Flex is superfast lol ... or any of this at this detail level can easily involve 10 second+ long "renders",
if not minutes per frame to output cache files )
Otherwise the "CREATURE_TEST_V2.scn" sliding skin scene isn't shown, as I couldn't get it to update the deformed mesh for some reason,
no red ICE nodes or error messages, the output mesh just isn't updating, but haven't investigated anything yet, if you want to have a go at it.
Also if you want, here is a link to the shown "Viz Optimized" scenes :: FlexScenes_Viz.zip
( direct link - 12mb )
And let me know if still getting any install issues,
& Cheers !

flex_to_xsi_2.06_1_17_2023.zip is replaced by PCtools?
I install flex_to_xsi_2.06_1_17_2023.zip first using instruction in archive (put in c:\Users\`username`\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_SP1\Application\Plugins\nt-x86-64\flextest\)
Then I unarchive pcTools_Softimage-master.zip from the github to c:\Users\`username`\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_SP1\Addons\
I trying to put unarchived pcTools_Softimage-master.zip to "pcTools_Softimage\Application\Plugins\bin\nt-x86-64" but with no results.
I`m use a Softimage 2015 SP1. A Flex plugin works only in SP2?
Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
sorry I UNINSTALLED previous flex,I install flex_to_xsi_2.06_1_17_2023.zip first using instruction in archive
and copied all files from from "Flex_To_Si_2.05.zip"
( there are more DLLs relative to "flex_to_xsi_2.06_1_17_2023.zip", if that made a difference )
to :
C:\Users\User\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_SP2\Addons\pcTools_Softimage-master\Application\Plugins\bin\nt-x86-64
... overriding existing DLLs
( also if that made a difference )
Otherwise, what is your GPU ?

Your installation method works fine!
Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
I tried this installation method, I succeeded. I also realized that PCTools is not compatible with my Flex_To_Si_2.05 plugin, but everything works perfectly when with the flex_to_xsi_2.06 plugin version.
Re: Softimage Nvidia Flex
Good to know! and maybe would it make the "skin sliding" scene work (?) it may also be better to not override DLLs, and just add any files that weren't there from 2.06
