SItoA update 5.1.1.0 with Cryptomatte 2.0
Updated May 31st 2018 — Rachid makes the latest Arnold Renderer version available to Softimage users via
updates/patches of the last SItoA release 4.1.0. That includes support for Cryptomatte,
the new subsurface scattering method and the new toon shader as of Arnold 5.1. Since
his distribution package does not contain any binary files, the Arnold SDK has to
be downloaded and the patches applied manually following the detailed instructions
he gives in the si-community thread / his posted walkthough video.
Cryptomatte is becoming an industry standard for ID based object/hierarchy selection in compositing (Nuke/Fusion plugins provided).
Introduced in this si-community thread. Latest update posted here Installation walkthrough video: SItoA Update Core 5 0 2 2 & Cryptomatte. A how-to video on how to use cryptomatte with the latest update can be found here: SItoA Update Core 5 1 1 0

SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Here is the update as requested
2- download/unzip Arnold SDK 5.1.1.0 from solidangle
3- Copy the content of the bin folder(Arnold SDK 5.1.1.0) (Override) and paste to C:\Users\XXX\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_R2-SP2\Addons\SItoA\Application\Plugins\bin\nt-x86-64
4- unzip SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3.7z
5- Copy/Paste (Override) arnold_shaders.mtd (C:\Users\XXXX\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_R2-SP2\Addons\SItoA\Application\Plugins\bin\nt-x86-64)
6- Copy/Paste (Override) "ArnoldMenu.js" "ArnoldScenePreferences.js" "ArnoldShaderDef.js" (C:\Users\XXX\Autodesk\Softimage_2015_R2-SP2\Addons\SItoA\Application\Plugins)
No operator nodes
For the toon shader you have to set the contour filter via Script Editor:
Application.SetValue("Passes.Arnold_Render_Options.output_filter", "contour", "")
Cryptomatte
No need for environment variable, since we copy the Cryptomatte.dll & Cryptomatte.mtd file to bin\nt-x86-64.
If for some reason you want to use Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b2 copy also "ArnoldMenu.js" to Plugins folder
if you are using Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b2
1- make a new Pass with partition for Cryptomatte give it a name "Crypto" or any name
2- add cryptomatte shader to the partition
The Aov are exposed in Scene Render Options/Available Channels
if you are using Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
1- make a new Pass with partition for Cryptomatte give it a name "Crypto" or any name
2- Do not apply Crptomatte Shader, if you do you get an error ' ERROR : [sitoa] Can't assign Arnold.cryptomatte.1.0. Passes.Crypto.Crypto doesn't have a material'
assign standard Surface Shader, then you can replace it with cryptomatte

Thanks for your work Rachid... but allow me to point you and others to an area of active development regarding SItoA and Arnold 5.x.
https://github.com/caron/sitoa/releases
This is an alpha release supporting a lot of new Arnold 5.1 features, including adding support for 'AOV Shaders' so you can put the Cryptomatte shader on the 'pass output shader stack'.

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Thanks to both of you for keeping SItoA alive for a bit longer!!
And I agree with Steven, it's best to combine all efforts on the GitHub page.
cheers guys, will test asap!

Just wanted to note that this 'alpha release' will be removed soon as we (Jens Lindgren and I) iterate on the project.
Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Glad seeing SitoA still alive. Thanks to all involved. Once I get my number of side projects lower I'll join the testers too.

We are getting close to a new release of SItoA and it would probably not hurt if some people tested it a little bit before. So here's a SItoA 5.2.0-beta release: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rhnmodk3jcme0 ... addon?dl=0
What's new since 5.1.0-alpha:
More details about features/fixes can be found in the Pull Requests on GitHub: https://github.com/Autodesk/sitoa/pulls ... s%3Aclosed
If you find any issues or have any feedback at all, please open an Issue on the GitHub page: https://github.com/Autodesk/sitoa
What's new since 5.1.0-alpha:

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
so far i am about mental ray, it's customized for softimage, there is the glow effect.
are there contrarily other users here who share this view, and don't mind if mr is a bit slow,
or someone instead who uses arnold+softimage with substance painter ??
your opinion matter to me, thanks !!
Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
@Jenus:
Installed the beta, and so far no issues yet. Will test it a bit more thorough in the next days.
@nicole: Mental Ray is free with Softimage, Arnold is not. If you cannot, or don't want to pay for Arnold it is Mental Ray as a default renderer for you
Painter has most renderers covered, metal ray as well: https://support.allegorithmic.com/docum ... 10421.html
Workflow is the same for Softimage.

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
---- Is there any way to use noice denoiser in this release?
Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Yes, I would vote for the noice denoiser. Also, Operators is the most tasty thing for me....
Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
I've not had the time to think about operators yet. If you have an idea of how you would like it to work in Softimage, please add your comments on the issue about Operators on Github here: https://github.com/Autodesk/sitoa/issues/19
Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Haven't looked at Operators properly, but from what I can recall it felt like SI/MR overrides on groups to me.
But I could be wrong though
rob
p.s. the beta runs fine so far

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3
Operators are only looking for the right objects through names.
That means you put a Operator on the whole scene, and then type sphere* or box* in the Operator and it will affect all objects that starts with the name sphere or box.
They also node-based. In 3ds Max (MAXtoA) they built a completely new custom node editor just for the Operators. That's quite a lot of work. So I welcome ideas of how to implement it in a smart way in Softimage.
