XSI 'TODAY' issues and solutions (MS Windows)

Post by Nolan » 10 Jan 2022, 01:12

The XSI Wiki has been closed down but may be found at archive.org https://web.archive.org/web/20210508155 ... image.com/

A modern renderer can be added, Blender Cycles, for Softimage 'Sycles' https://ssoftadd.github.io/syclesPage.html See the active thread. To fix redraw issue with changes, turn off 'Cache Mesh' in the Performance tab of the Sycles Render Options.

When installing you may need the old MS C++ Redistributable Libraries installed: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/wi ... w=msvc-170

I wrote a post here about licensing XSI to a USB Ethernet Adaptor mac address for future proofing. Requires a floating license. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=4991

Hopefully some company writes a next generation 3D CGI App that takes lessons from XSI, in reliable and performant language rust www.rust-lang.org which is now starting to get GUI libraries such as SixtyFPS https://sixtyfps.io/ from ex QT people I believe. Rust won the stack overflow most loved language survey 5 years in a row.

The 'Main Command Area' on the left obscures some of the buttons. on my PC monitor. Is there anyway to 'scroll' it or fix this? Display Resolution and Scale changes don't seem to remove the glitch. I did find this thread re 4K thread monitors viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6024

Some menus make the cursor spin when you mouse nearer the bottom. The solution is to tear the menu off and shift it towards the top of the screen.

Anyone else got issues or solutions for running XSI today?
