Nice to be using Softimage again. But where is everyone now?

Post by talent103 » 19 Feb 2022, 05:30

After so many years away from Softimage I am doing a personal project in it again. It is amazing how much I have forgotten. It's coming back to me tho. Its worth it because MAYA is such a shit show. I may have some stupid soft questions one day. its not that I am a newbie its that time made me forget.

Some of us are still around, although I must admit it's been a while since I've actually used Softimage...
But answering questions is a good way to rekindle the flame! :-bd

Yes I had not used it in a long time either. I am shocked by how much I forgot. My flame has been rekindled tho. The last week has made 3D fun again. Not sure if that is Nostalgia or just the real ease of use and intuitive workflow. However; I feel like one of the last people on the titanic these days.

Hopefully your experience will be slightly less stressful than that... :D

I can play all my cards with Blender and Davinci resolve + AE these days. But when I am handed particles, collisions, and cloth, I have to turn the job offer down.
I used to do all of that with no fear in ICE. There is no replacement for ICE except Houdini (of course, HU it is built for these things), but my point is, I would rather stay on animation/modeling jobs than going to sim, because
I don't have a replacement for ICE

I'm still using SI for various things, the control you get over particles in ICE for instance is fantastic and Cycles Renderer has kept the rendering fairly modern. I drop in from time to time so if I can answer a question I will try.

Nice to see so many people still enjoying Softimage (and keeping this community alive as one of its last strongholds)... :x

Phew, been a while since coming here. I'm using Blender through Bforaritsts and Unreal Engine these days. Blueprints and Geometry Nodes with some Sverchok in Blender helps my ICE needs.

Hi,
Reading here every weeks ;-) But never touch XSI from 2015, I'm in Houdini far ALL type of work, it's super fluid for everything, from UE realtime render jobs to VFX Arnold ones. I'm pleased to be on a not abandoned wagon and with happy and pleased customer, that change everything.
