Shape Animation help

Post by Shredder565 » 21 Jun 2022, 03:31

need some help before I reach insanity levels :)

Image

I'm trying to animate this logo. but as you can see, there are 'invisible lines' over lapping the grid that forms the letters 'turtles' both at the top of the image, and the middle/bottom of the image. the grid is flat, so not sure why this is happening. and ruins an otherwise perfect shape animation. any ideas?

this line comes out because it is still a single polygon,
it would have to be cut up slightly,
this divides the large polygon into smaller ones and avoids overlapping,

something like this see picture edges
edges.JPG
i don't know the other shapes
if they are very different this might not work

maybe it works if you add an inset after the shapeanimation
but then you have first desolve the edges inside the shape

see next picture clean_inset

if you do the shapeanimation only with the curve and then leave a curvetomesh operator active you can create the shapeanimation even more elegant with the curve and insert a small inset at the curvetomesh, that should stay stable.

I tried doing it with the curve. But I liked the control I got with the points better. it's a pain in the ass, because there are more of thme at certain parts of the 18 image sequence than I need, and curves WOULD be easier ot manage then. But i'm willing to deal with this.

as for the rest, THANK YOU! I cut the logo in half by adding a line straight down the middle and disconecting it from the main. thankfully none of the points got messed up and it's MUCH better now. I really wish I took official classes in SI. I've been teaching myself this thing since2008, and STILL only know the basics. I never really messed around with ice for example.

no need. that was the big issue with this one that was driving me crazy :).

I do wish there was a video that explained some tips and tricks to make doing stuff like this easier :)

The other thing is shape animation with mouth animation. whenever I add lines... it messes 85% of the mouth animation up. a, b, ch, o, t, u, w, angry eyes, etc.

Highly annoying when I have to make changes, or smooth it out, or local subdivide.

Softimage has been non-destructive when modeling during shape animation since 4.0!

If you want to perform a local subdivision after setting up a shape animation, select BaseShape in the Shape Manager, apply a local subdivision, and then
Select Result in the Shape Manager and play it back!

So, when I do shape animation, I usually click on Base, then do A. CLick on Base, then do B, etc after Duplicate Shape. Should I be clicking on Result instead?

another question. how can one stop it from going back to base shape?

For instance,
You have Shape 1 with a slider that is 0-1.
You have Shape 2 with a slider that is 0-1.

Key Shape 1, in between, it reverts to base shape and messes the smoothness up when the slider is at .5.. but is fine as soon as it gets to slider 1.
